HOLIDAYS (AND WEBSITE) UPDATE

Welp, it’s December!  How did we get here so fast?  More importantly, why haven’t I posted in a while?  I’ll tell you why… don’t hate me!

This year began almost like every other year.  It was busy from the get-go and I could not keep up with it all.  Not to mention 100 other hard decisions getting in the way—I wasn’t enjoying writing content as much.  Worse than that, I wasn’t enjoying reading anything either!

You could say this year has been particularly  painful and difficult for personal reasons.  But it has also been magical and full of “firsts” for me!  In the end though, I feel really proud of all the work that we have done this year.  Because of this, I decided to shift the website from being content-based to being more project-based.  This allows me to focus on what I love: making things look all kinds of amazing and sharing them when appropriate.

Hope that you will continue to follow along in our journey—from growing this business to turning our 1st house into a mindfully loving and functional home.

OK—now that that’s out of the way—let’s talk about the Holidays!  Now, you may not know this, but I used to be a Grinch when I met my husband.  Then I had my 1st Christmas over at his parents’ house and BOOM, forever changed into the biggest Christmas fan ever.  In my defense, my husband (then boyfriend) woke me up on Christmas morning to tell me it was snowing.  I mean, come on!  #Converted

Fast forward 8 years and this is now our 9th Christmas together, and I must say that we’ve adopted and created many traditions that we’ll cherish forever.  One of them came from my side of the family, and that is to go crazy decorating!  This year, however, we decided to keep things tamed, but I think once we expand our family we might go a bit crazier.  (Side note: my husband gave me my dream mirror for my birthday!  I am in love with both of them!)

My #1 tip for decorating for Christmas is to stick with a color palette.  If your house is really open like ours, then try to have fun with color if you don’t want to stick to a palette.  It might look colorful, but if that’s what you love I say go for it!  In our living room we stuck with traditional colors and mixed it with the blue that already lives there.

I decided to keep the kitchen pretty neutral since the living room is more colorful.  That created a nice balance between both rooms.

Also, natural garlands go a long way!  I got mine at Trader Joe’s for $6.99.  All you need is a few LED twinkle lights and done.  I love these lights because you can repurpose them elsewhere later in the year.  Oh, and don’t be afraid of adding accessories in unexpected places. 😉  Think outside the box!

Moving on to the dining room, where I added more evergreen and kept it natural and colorful.  This tied in the living room and the kitchen palettes nicely.

To top it off, the foyer and front door were also kept natural.  Remember that even though the foyer is people’s first impression of your house, it doesn’t have to be overtly decorated.  Simplicity can be beautiful and impactful, too.

Hope you all have a Happy Happy Holidays!
